Friday July 19th … Dear Diary. The main purpose of this ongoing blog will be to track United States extreme or record temperatures related to climate change. Any reports I see of ETs will be listed below the main topic of the day. I’ll refer to extreme or record temperatures as ETs (not extraterrestrials).😉
Major U.S. Heat Wave Day Four
Our U.S. heat wave is starting to peak and has done so across the Midwest today. Before a relatively strong front for July puts a kibosh on the thing by early next week it will be the Northeast’s turn to really swelter on Saturday:
Figures on the above WSI max chart are usually a degree or two too low, so you know that it will be broiling in the Northeast tomorrow. Taking into account dewpoints in the 70s high heat indexes will approach if not exceed 110F in some instances. It may just be a good day to stay inside and frank up the AC.
Today, thankfully, the areal extent of heat warnings and advisories has peaked. We will be trimming these from northwest to southeast through Monday due to that refreshing cold front I mentioned:
I can’t emphasize this each warm season enough:
As far as records go, this heatwave will be noted for its record warm minimums more than maximums. As we know now, nights are warming faster than days:
Here are some social media messages with article links on this ongoing heatwave. As usual, any newer messages that cross my radar during Friday will be listed at the top of this article. Check back from time to time to see if I have listed more:
Here is more climate and weather news from Friday:
(As usual, this will be a fluid post in which more information gets added during the day as it crosses my radar, crediting all who have put it on-line. Items will be archived on this site for posterity. In most instances click on the pictures of each tweet to see each article.)
