It is also worth pointing out that human-caused climate change is now the dominant contributor to the increase of wildfire risk in the western U.S.: cpo.noaa.gov/study-shows-…

A possibly worthwhile point of clarification: the 'models' discussed here are statistical fits to the last ~100 years of data (from NOAA Atlas 14). This is inevitably backwards looking and will be an underestimate of current probabilities of rainfall intensity in a changing climate.

I discussed it here: michaelmann.net/comments-on-…

Again and again, our media show they have no interest in discussing the root of the emergency unfolding all around us

Absolutely thrilled to see climate legend Katharine Hayhoe share a @climateinstitute.bsky.social report that we designed.

New NHC: 80% Development ChanceNHC expects a depression by as early as later Sunday and perhaps #Bertha by Monday as it drifts NW near the Northern Gulf Coast/ #Florida Panhandle. This may become a strong Tropical Storm before landfall in ~3 days. Watch closely.

Will Bertha be Birth soon? Sound ⬆️ Here’s the #science behind the forecast challenge! For days it seemed the jet stream may tug /shear the system north into land before development. But now it seems it will be left behind, sitting in the hot Northern #Gulf for enough time to strengthen some b4 1:

If 91L in the Gulf does get its act together, it's got plenty of fuel — SSTs are near record-highs for this time of year.

These can be real tragedies. The flash floods in Southern Utah have been shocking. May I share this here?

The solution is right above us. Solar panels on existing buildings, car parks, and along highways generate clean power without sacrificing farmland or wild spaces. Let's use our built world first. #Renewables #Innovation

Civil nuclear power plants in the UK now face cyber-attacks enhanced by artificial intelligence (AI) and insider threats, according to the government’s National Risk Register 2026. www.newcivilengineer.com/latest/uks-n…

The much delayed Hinkley Point nuclear plant may end up costing £40-50bn, inflation adjusted, when it finally gets completed, probably in 2030. Its follow-on project, Sizewell C, may not do much better.renewextraweekly.blogspot.com/2026/07/new-…

Academics and technologists are sounding the alarm about a growing crisis in scholarship as we know it: AI-generated citations of nonexistent papers that have infested real journals. Despite being fake, the sources are widely assumed to be authentic the more they appear in published literature.
