The main purpose of this Main Topic: Hurricane Francine Likely to Impact Western Gulf blog will be to track planetary extreme, or record temperatures related to climate change. Any reports I see of ETs will be listed below the main topic of the day. I’ll refer to extreme or record temperatures as ETs (not extraterrestrials).😉
Main Topic: Hurricane Francine Likely to Impact Western Gulf
Dear Diary. I’m going slightly out on a limb to get ahead of mass media, which should be jumping all over this storm on Monday. Also, I’d like to give residents of the Texas/Louisiana coastline as much of a heads-up as possible to start making preparations for a possible whopper of a hurricane…in this case Francine, which is the next name on the list for Atlantic Basin tropical systems this year. Trust me, I’m using my forty years of experience as a meteorologist to warn everyone about an impending disaster.
I’m basing my forecast on the American GFS, which appears to be hotter than other models on this Sunday morning but given how anomalously warm Gulf waters are that have been affected by climate change, explosive development is a good possibility. Also, there appears to be not much shear over the system:
Residents of Houston are quite aware of what CAT1 Hurricane Beryl did at the beginning of the season.
With time today as more information becomes available, I will be adding more notes:
The European model has been trending stronger and further east than yesterday’s but is much weaker than the explosive GFS:
Here are more “ETs” recorded from around the planet the last couple of days, their consequences, and some extreme temperature outlooks, as well as any extreme precipitation reports:
Here is more new August 2024 climatology. (More can be found on each daily post during September.):

(As usual, this will be a fluid post in which more information gets added during the day as it crosses my radar, crediting all who have put it on-line. Items will be archived on this site for posterity. In most instances click on the pictures of each tweet to see each article. The most noteworthy items will be listed first.)
