Extreme Temperature Diary-July 30, 2019/Heat Wave Moves To Greenland

Tuesday July 30th… Dear Diary. The main purpose of this ongoing blog will be to track United States extreme or record temperatures related to climate change. Any reports I see of ETs will be listed below the main topic of the day. I’ll refer to extreme or record temperatures as ETs (not extraterrestrials).😉

Heat Wave Moves To Greenland

Last evening I tweeted out this short message looking at the latest Climate Reanalyzer Chart:

This “heatwave” was forecast well to move from Europe to Greenland:

Now we will see if all sorts of records, even all-time records, are broken across Greenland this week going into early August:

Obviously all concerned with climate know that this extra heat will put much more stress on the vast ice pack in Greenland’s interior that contains enough water to eventually raise sea levels 20 feet if all were to melt. And yes even wildfires have hit the island:

A whopper of a 500 millibar ridge should stay over or near Greenland through the bulk of this week. Here is an eye opening view from the latest initial GFS model:

Another view from Penn State ensembles:

At the moment the warm anomaly near Greenland is the largest for the entire Northern Hemisphere and is the warmest I have ever seen this time of the year in that area of the world. Oh boy…this was confirmed after I wrote this post Tuesday:

We will wait to report any record temperatures coming from Greenland this week, but I suspect that there will be some all-time warmest reports similar to those reported across Europe last week. Keep looking at either my Twitter feed or this post for those reports.

Here is more climate and weather news from Tuesday:

(As usual, this will be a fluid post in which more information gets added during the day as it crosses my radar, crediting all who have put it on-line. Items will be archived on this site for posterity. In most instances click on the pictures of each tweet to see each article.)

Here are a pair of very unusual “ETs” from Tuesday:
