The main purpose of this ongoing blog will be to track planetary extreme, or record temperatures related to climate change. Any reports I see of ETs will be listed below the main topic of the day. I’ll refer to extreme or record temperatures as ETs (not extraterrestrials).😜
Main Topic: Dangerous CAT3 Heatwave Delphi Peaks Today
Dear Diary. The fourth major CAT3 or better heatwave to affect the U.S. this spring and summer named Delphi for Delphi oil and gas company will peak today across the Southeast. The system had a record-breaking heat dime over the weekend, but 500 millibar heights are already gradually coming down:

In my neck of the woods where I live in Atlanta Georgia, temperatures will max out near 98°F with a heat index of 105°F, which should be the peak of this heatwave, although readings will be close to that level the rest of the week. The record for Atlanta for today’s date is 101°F, so that I’d not threatened.

Relatively few records across the south are being set from Delphi, so I don’t anticipate that the system will strengthen to my historic CAT4 level. Still, a CAT3 is dangerous for the health of anyone working or exercising outdoors as noted by today’s many warnings and advisories:

Slowly this week Delphi’s heat dome will retrograde into the Southwest, so once more the area of dangerous heat will grow there:

I’ll have daily updates on Delphi on Twitter @climateguyw and on Bluesky @climateguyw.bsky.social as the week rolls along.
Here are more “ET’s” recorded from around the planet the last couple of days, their consequences, and some extreme temperature outlooks, as well as any extreme precipitation reports:

(As usual, this will be a fluid post in which more information gets added during the day as it crosses my radar, crediting all who have put it on-line. Items will be archived on this site for posterity. In most instances click on the pictures of each tweet to see each article. The most noteworthy items will be listed first.)
