Monday May 27th… Dear Diary. The main purpose of this ongoing blog will be to track United States extreme or record temperatures related to climate change. Any reports I see of ETs will be listed below the main topic of the day. I’ll refer to extreme or record temperatures as ETs (not extraterrestrials).😉
The Dreaded Ring Of Fire…Day Five
Happy Memorial Day everyone. The long Memorial Day weekend for Americans has come to represent the unofficial start of summer. For those of us living in the Southeast it seems as if summer has been with us for a very long time already due to extreme heat. May seems like July, so many are dreading what the true summer of 2019 will offer temperature wise. I do see at least a slight break coming for most in the Southeast by next weekend. Our big 594+ decameter ridge parked near Georgia is already starting to diminish and by Saturday will be nearly gone, nearly disappearing, having slipped southward towards Florida and the Gulf of Mexico:
Any record heat north of Florida should end. While still mostly dry at least there will be a chance for showers and storms near a weak front getting as far south as the Tennessee Valley.
In the meantime another big severe weather day is anticipated in the Plains on Tuesday as the latest deep cold core system moves into Colorado, interacting with an already very unstable air mass in the Plains. Just like we’ve been doing the last few days I will be listing some severe storm and flooding notes here as Monday rolls along:
I’ll be listing notes on this record May heatwave for the Southeast here:
Any “ETs” from Monday that cross my radar will be listed here:
Here is some more climate and weather news from Monday:
(As usual, this will be a fluid post in which more information gets added during the day as it crosses my radar, crediting all who have put it on-line. Items will be archived on this site for posterity. In most instances click on the pictures of each tweet to see each article.)
