Extreme Temperature Diary- Monday October 26th, 2020/ Main Topic: Watching California’s “Climate Fires”

The main purpose of this ongoing blog will be to track United States extreme or record temperatures related to climate change. Any reports I see of ETs will be listed below the main topic of the day. I’ll refer to extreme or record temperatures as ETs (not extraterrestrials).😉

Main Topic: Watching California’s “Climate Fires”

Dear Diary. This morning I was watching The Weather Channel and was pleased to see that they were connecting this years historic western fires with global warming in each segment. I heard a new shortened term for climate change enhanced or induced fires called simply “climate fires,” which I will use from now on. Catchy phrases do resonate with the public better and can be used for educational purposes.

In any case as far as weather goes, this week all eyes will be on the fire and extremely strong wind situation in California, Winter Storm “Billy,” as TWC has dubbed it, for the Plains and southern Rockies, and soon to be Hurricane Zeta, which will bring life threatening conditions to the central Gulf coastal area by Wednesday, with flooding further north. Yes, TWC will have their hands full this week. Writ large, all of these events have a climate change signal somewhere in their weather DNA.

Of first concern is the Silverado Fire, which broke out last night in California. Unfortunately there will be other conflagrations beginning to burn as Monday rolls into Tuesday. For today’s main topic article I will try to post many new messages from Dr. Daniel Swain and other sources on the latest round of climate fires to hit his state.

The latest messages, as usual, will be at the top of this list:

(As usual, this will be a fluid post in which more information gets added during the day as it crosses my radar, crediting all who have put it on-line. Items will be archived on this site for posterity. In most instances click on the pictures of each tweet to see each article. The most noteworthy items will be listed first.)

Now here are some of today’s articles and notes on the horrid COVID-19 pandemic:
