The main purpose of this ongoing blog will be to track planetary extreme or record temperatures related to climate change. Any reports I see of ETs will be listed below the main topic of the day. I’ll refer to extreme or record temperatures as ETs (not extraterrestrials).😉
Main Topic: Heat Dome To Intensify over North Africa And Heat Wave To Linger In Middle East
Dear Diary. Welcome to what should prove as a hot July for most. While Heat Wave Beta was raging in the Pacific Northwest historic levels of heat were and still are occurring from North Africa into the Middle East. For grins let’s call this episode on the other side of the planet “Heatwave Cobra.”
The heat done in association with Cobra is currently a vast area of above average 500 millibar heights that stretches eastward from Morocco to Iran. One center over Algeria is forecast to intensify to the dreaded 600 decameter level by Saturday:
I would not be surprised at all to see our extreme record temperature guru, Maximilliano Herrera, report more all-time records from the region, particularly from Morocco, Algeria, or Tunisia.
The past few days in my “ET” section I’ve been plugging in many of Max’s Twitter record notes from Africa, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East. Here are those from the last several days and any current notes to give you a sense of the scale of Heatwave Cobra over the area.
Here is some climatology from June 2021:

(As usual, this will be a fluid post in which more information gets added during the day as it crosses my radar, crediting all who have put it on-line. Items will be archived on this site for posterity. In most instances click on the pictures of each tweet to see each article. The most noteworthy items will be listed first.)
Now here are some of today’s articles and notes on the horrid COVID-19 pandemic:
