The main purpose of this ongoing blog will be to track planetary extreme, or record temperatures related to climate change. Any reports I see of ETs will be listed below the main topic of the day. I’ll refer to extreme or record temperatures as ETs (not extraterrestrials).😉
Main Topic: Heatwave Gasprom Slated to Move East and Grow This Weekend
Dear Diary. As if it hasn’t been hot enough this summer, historic CAT4 Heatwave Gasprom is forecast by all meteorological models to move eastward and grow the next several days. As a reminder, I name major heatwaves that attain my CAT3 rating after oil companies. Those that set many all-time records and are responsible for dozens of deaths attain my CAT4 ranking, such as Heatwave Gasprom. God forbid, a heatwave such as the one from 2003 across Europe., that kills thousands, would attain my top ranking of a CAT5.
Some good news. The heatwave that started in Mexico during April and spread northward into the United States named Exxon finally died due to a weak cold front putting the kibosh on heat in the Northeast as it moved offshore.
Here is the current stare of western Heatwave Gasprom’s heat dome as of July 11th:

About a 596-decameter ridge has settled in over the Southwest, which is quite typical for mid-July. A cool trough moving through the Midwest is responsible for some delightfully cooler less humid weather moving into most places east of the Rockies:

It will be uncomfortably hot across the Southern Plains, though. That 93°F forecast in my hometown of Atlanta will be a dry heat.
By Sunday 500 millibar heights will have really increased across the country with a new Gulf of Mexico heatwave building and merging with the heat dome from Heatwave Gasprom that has moved eastward into the central Rockies.

All of this will produce widespread uncomfortable heat east of the Rockies by Sunday:

We will see how much relief the Midwest and Northeast gets from the Next Canadian system next week. At least 500 millibar heights will be coming down after Sunday:

Of course, I’ll be posting any records from Heatwave Gasprom as it moves eastward in my daily section below:

(As usual, this will be a fluid post in which more information gets added during the day as it crosses my radar, crediting all who have put it on-line. Items will be archived on this site for posterity. In most instances click on the pictures of each tweet to see each article. The most noteworthy items will be listed first.)
