The rankings are for the lower 48 states with the warmest ranking since 1895 of average temperatures, being 129 and 1 being the coldest as of 2023.  Blue colors represent cold months and red warm. Those months with counts close to a 1 to 1 ratio of highs to lows are colored black. Average temperature anomalies with departures from 1901-2000 have been added to charts on this update. I have opted not to catalogue data prior to 1890 since record counts decrease substantially prior to the decade of the 1900s. NCEI Rankings individual months and years are listed on each chart. Rankings between 55-75 are color coded black, or near average. All-time warmest or coldest months and years are color coded purple. Time stamps for when I last updated counts are located in the upper left-hand corner of each chart. Drop me a note if you see an error or if you have suggestions for improvements.
