The main purpose of this ongoing blog will be to track planetary extreme, or record temperatures related to climate change. Any reports I see of ETs will be listed below the main topic of the day. I’ll refer to extreme or record temperatures as ETs (not extraterrestrials).😜
Main Topic: Cool Fall-Like Relief Coming for the U.S.
Dear Diary. We will see the start of meteorological fall on September 1st, so most of this summer is behind us. Summer 2025 is noteworthy due to extreme heat occurring just about everywhere for at least one week out of the season and flooding across many areas east of the Rockies. The good news today is that a weather pattern change will usher in dry and cooler than average conditions for the eastern half of the country:

Dry air should drive all the way to the Gulf Coast, so water-logged residents across most of the East should get needed relief.

Even the West, which is currently in the throes of major CAT3 Heatwave Pemex will cool late this week. Will the heat dome there come down enough to kill Pemex? Stay tuned.
Also, as a bonus the cool trough dropping southward from Canada will protect the eastern seaboard from any developing hurricanes. Currently meteorological models don’t forecast a hurricane moving into the U.S. well into September.
Forecast minimum temperatures going into Labor Day weekend will be downright chilly for many from the Midwest into the East:

Given the current state of climate change, we are due for a spate of weather leading to several hundred record low temperatures after many months of more record max and min than cold records being produced from an overheated atmosphere because of our carbon pollution. Of course, I’ll report how all of this good news pans out on this blog.
Here are more “ET’s” recorded from around the planet the last couple of days, their consequences, and some extreme temperature outlooks, as well as any extreme precipitation reports:

(As usual, this will be a fluid post in which more information gets added during the day as it crosses my radar, crediting all who have put it on-line. Items will be archived on this site for posterity. In most instances click on the pictures of each tweet to see each article. The most noteworthy items will be listed first.)
