Main Topic: Heatwave Apothis to Take Aim at the South on the Start of a New Week.
Dear Diary. Hurray! This Juneteenth Sunday the shackles of high heat and humidity are off for a good chunk of the U.S. South, which is experiencing a great weather day to celebrate this new holiday commemorating when slavery actually ended in this country. Heat advisories have all but ended across the South. Apothis is hanging on as a low end CAT3 across the northern Plains:
From Wikipedia: Juneteenth is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. Juneteenth marks the anniversary of the announcement of General Order No. 3 by Union Army general Gordon Granger on June 19, 1865.
Don’t be fooled, though. Slavery might have ended, but after the reconstruction period, Jim Crow all but put African Americans back into real bondage. Inequality only ended after people of all stripes got involved with the Civil Rights movement from the 1950s onward, but racism still lives. Across the planet, we too are beginning to experience shackles from fossil fuel induced heat. Though some portions of the country are escaping extreme heat for a couple of days, Heatwave Apothis is poised to make a big return across the South by midweek. This time around many daily records will be shattered, and my hometown of Atlanta could see a fairly rare century mark for maxes:
Readings at or above 100°F should be quite common by Wednesday across the old Confederate States.
The heat dome responsible for this unwelcome dangerous heat will regrow impressively. It should be close to 597 decameters by Tuesday, centered over Arkansas:
Extreme heat will probably ease a bit across the Southeast once the ridge from Apothis diminishes some by next weekend and retrogrades towards the west:
Unfortunately, this slight change in association with the heat dome from Apothis will put the southern Plains and Texas in line for near record heat during the first weekend of summer.
If we want to escape total bondage from horrifically hot summers for our progeny, we must heed these warning signs and battle our climate crisis enslavers, the fossil fuel industry. At the very least, we must impress upon them to change with the times or become as defunct as the old Confederacy.
