Extreme Temperature Diary- Wednesday April 27th, 2022/Main Topic: Another Heatwave for South America

The main purpose of this ongoing blog will be to track planetary extreme, or record temperatures related to climate change. Any reports I see of ETs will be listed below the main topic of the day. I’ll refer to extreme or record temperatures as ETs (not extraterrestrials).😉

Main Topic: Another Heatwave for South America

Dear Diary. It’s time to set aside various newsworthy climate items vying for our main daily topic because we have several historic heatwaves popping up across the planet at the moment. The worst is the one across the Indian sub-continent area, which we will revisit tomorrow. Today let’s focus in on a rather surprising heatwave that has set in across South America during their fall.

Apparently cold fronts moving north from Argentina are not penetrating into south-central areas of the continent, as is usually the case in April. This morning we are seeing a very stark contrast between a cold regime across Argentina and a strong heat dome farther north:

By Friday there won’t be much change with the heat dome, so record temperatures are supposed to get even hotter. I’ll keep my readers informed on what transpires here through this coming weekend.

As usual, Maximiliano Herrera first let me know about this South American situation days ago:

Here are more notes from Max, leading us up to today:

New “ET” record summaries coming from elsewhere across the planet are listed below:

Here is more climate and weather news from Wednesday:

(As usual, this will be a fluid post in which more information gets added during the day as it crosses my radar, crediting all who have put it on-line. Items will be archived on this site for posterity. In most instances click on the pictures of each tweet to see each article. The most noteworthy items will be listed first.)

Now here are some of today’s articles and notes on the horrid war on Ukraine:
