Extreme Temperature Diary- Tuesday September 27th, 2022/Main Topic: Catastrophic Hurricane Ian Makes Landfall Near Fort Myers

The main purpose of this ongoing blog will be to track planetary extreme, or record temperatures related to climate change. Any reports I see of ETs will be listed below the main topic of the day. I’ll refer to extreme or record temperatures as ETs (not extraterrestrials).😉

Main Topic: Catastrophic Hurricane Ian Makes Landfall Near Fort Myers

Dar Diary. Unfortunately, this morning Hurricane Ian powered up to borderline CAT4/5 strength as it made landfall in the Fort Myers area:

If there is any good news this is well south of its projected path to Tampa from 48 hours ago. Once again, the very vulnerable Tampa area will be spared the worst effects of a major hurricane, but a large chunk of Florida will not. Hurricane Charley, which took a similar path to Ian in 2004, cost Florida $16.9 billion according to Wikipedia.

Ian is much bigger and will produce a much higher price tag as it works its way towards Orlando through Thursday.

Now the human misery starts for people who are in the path of Ian. Power won’t be able to be restored across wide swaths of Florida for weeks due to structural damage. Many refugees from Ian will either go south towards Miami or north to my state, Georgia over the next several days.

So, just like I’ve done for the last few days, here is the latest news and notes on Hurricane Ian (latest news will be posted at the top of this list, which I will frequently update as Wednesday rolls along):

Here are some “ET’s” recorded from around the planet the last couple of days, their consequences, and some extreme temperature outlooks:

Here is more climate and weather news from Wednesday:

(As usual, this will be a fluid post in which more information gets added during the day as it crosses my radar, crediting all who have put it on-line. Items will be archived on this site for posterity. In most instances click on the pictures of each tweet to see each article. The most noteworthy items will be listed first.)
