The main purpose of this ongoing blog will be to track planetary extreme or record temperatures related to climate change. Any reports I see of ETs will be listed below the main topic of the day. I’ll refer to extreme or record temperatures as ETs (not extraterrestrials)😉
Main Topic: Watching Hurricane Ida Day Two
Dear Diary. I really feel for President Joe Biden. Today he is dealing with the aftermath of terrorism by Isis and an August 31st deadline for when all Americans and their allies wanting to leave should be out of Afghanistan. Simultaneously it looks like there will be a major landfalling hurricane in Louisiana, very close to New Orleans, but just how close and how strong will the system be for that city…and also how slow will Ida move away from the coast once a landfall occurs? We will be trying to answer these questions through Saturday before a landfall sometime on Sunday. If we have another Katrina there will be a lot of ramifications for the Biden Administration as well as for past administrations in charge of strengthening the levee system. I have no doubt, though, that Joe Biden will want to visit any area devastated by Ida, and its certain that destruction of coastal infrastructure will occur.
As of this writing, while bad, it doesn’t look like New Orleans will see a direct slow hit, but new defenses built post Katrina will be challenged:
As stated yesterday:
Here are more notes on the Ida. (As usual, the most important latest articles and notes will be at the top of this list, which I will frequently update as Friday progresses.):
Here is more climate and weather news from Friday:
(As usual, this will be a fluid post in which more information gets added during the day as it crosses my radar, crediting all who have put it on-line. Items will be archived on this site for posterity. In most instances click on the pictures of each tweet to see each article. The most noteworthy items will be listed first.)
Now here are some of today’s articles and notes on the horrid COVID-19 pandemic:
